Denis’s home made curry powder
I’ve known Denis for many years and I can fully recommend his curry powder. His mother was Indian and passed on to him a secret recipe. For a suggested donation of £1 – which goes to support a missionary team in Sierra Leone – he’ll send you a bag of his superb curry powder.

Kim’s Cake
- 1lb (400g) dried mixed fruit
- 1 mug hot black tea (or fruit tea eg raspberry or strawberry)
- 1 mug soft brown sugar
- 2 mugs self-raising flour
- 1 beaten egg
Soak the dried fruit (for a birthday-type cake add some cherries) overnight in the hot black tea.The next day mix all ingredients (including the tea) together then place into a 2lb (800g) loaf tin or round cake tin (I grease tins with paper and some marg).Bake for 2 hours at 160 C or Gas Mark 3 – if your oven is hot keep an eye as it may not take 2 hours – test with skewer. If left the top may burn, sometimes I cover with a baking tray as my oven is really hot.
Serve hot or cold. This cake can be frozen.
